Portrait Study Display and Artist’s Reception to Benefit Two Local
Nonprofit Organizations

Fargo, N.D.—January 17, 2011— Fargo-based artist Karen Bakke has
completed a portrait study project, "The Alpha and the Omega," to
further her artistic journey while also raising donations for two
local nonprofit organizations, Hospice of the Red River Valley and
FirstChoice Clinic.

Bakke painted the 100 oil portrait studies in preparation for a second
training session with renowned portrait artist Igor Babailov. All 100
portrait studies will be on display at Boerth's Gallery, 212 Broadway
in downtown Fargo from January 17-February 28. The display is open to
the public during regular business hours, Monday-Wednesday and Fridays
from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Thursdays from 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. and
Saturdays 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

An artist’s reception will be held Thursday, January 27 from 6:30-8
p.m. at Boerth’s Gallery. Bakke will be giving a short presentation
and answering questions about the project at 6:45 p.m. Refreshments
will be served, and the event is open to the public.

Many community members participated in the project by sitting for
portrait studies, including Margie Bailly, executive director of the
Fargo Theatre, Bishop Samuel J. Aquila of the Catholic Diocese of
Fargo and Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney.

Bakke has asked participants who wish to keep their portraits to make
a donation to either Hospice of the Red River Valley or FirstChoice
Clinic. Bakke is calling the project "The Alpha and the Omega" to
signify the work of these two organizations; celebrating life—from
conception to natural death.

“I was looking for a way to encourage volunteers to sit for a one-hour
portrait study, while also benefitting two local organizations I
personally support,” Bakke said. “I am very grateful to everyone who
has helped make this project possible.”

Call for Entries: *Fiber and Textile Artists* 2011

Call for Entries: Fiber and Textile Artists
       "WWW." Exhibit, Northfield, MN

Deadline: May 2, 2011
Exhibit: June 29 - August 6

Northfield Arts Guild in Northfield, Minnesota, in partnership with
the Northfield Public Library and Art on Water Gallery, is hosting a
fiber and textile exhibit which brings the work of Upper Midwest fiber
and textile artists to Northfield in the summer of 2011. Entitled
"WWW.", the exhibit explores via artist interpretations how
communications technology has influenced contemporary life.

The theme of this exhibit: If art is an interpretation of reality,
then how might art examine the profound, life-changing reality of
contemporary communications technology? The web has revolutionized not
only how we communicate, but how we process time and experience. The
conclusions of social scientists on this issue raise now-familiar
themes ranging from deeply altered human relations to limitless
information which expands human potential.

Diverse interpretations are anticipated and encouraged from
participating artists. Entry details and an application form are found
at http://tinyurl.com/wwwexhibit. Entries are juried and there are
cash awards for winning submissions.

Your assistance in helping to spread the word about this interesting
and important exhibit is genuinely appreciated. Brochures and a poster
are available upon request. For inquiries, please email

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Brad Easterson
